Industry Events and Conferences with Relevance to Terminology Management

It can be a challenge finding an event solely dedicated to terminology management. However, if you are looking for an opportunity to connect with like-minded language professionals passionate about terminology, you don’t necessarily have to look for a conference solely dedicated to terminology management. So, where can you connect and learn more? Here are a few suggestions.

Terminology Events (EMEA)

  • EAFT: Summit every other year
  • DTT: (German Association for Terminologists) bi-annual meeting (German only).
  • TermNet: International Terminology Summer School that offers a week-long practice courses. If you are just starting in terminology management and looking to learn about it, this is an event to consider.
  • TOTh: Community events on terminology and ontology. (French and English sessions).

Translation and Localization Industry Events (North America)

  • American Translators Association (ATA): Annual Conferences often offers tracks on terminology management from the translator and interpreter perspective. (mainly in English, but sessions specific to other languages also take place).

Translation and Localization Industry Events (Worldwide)

  • LocWorld: Conferences that takes place three times a year (Asia-Pacific in spring, EMEA in summer, and North America in the fall). The conference often includes sessions that focus on terminology management. In fact, LocWorld26, LocWorld37, LocWorld38 included pre-conference round tables specifically dedicated to corporate terminology management programs.
  • TAUS: The language data network offers conferences and user group events that bring together language professionals, including those who work on terminology.
  • GALA: Annual conference and events throughout the year offer opportunities to connect with peers in the language industry and learn about new standards and technology offerings. The conference is oriented toward language service providers and software vendors.

Other Events

These events may not include terminology-specific tracks, but may include discussions on applied terminology in specific areas or in a larger industry context. Depending on the goals of your terminology management program, some of the events may be more appropriate than others.
